About Fiona

“I grew up near Birmingham and remember going to it’s historic ‘jewellery quarter’ with my nan when I was younger. She would go to buy a special gift or to get her jewellery repaired. She liked to tell me that we had jewellers in our family who worked from there in the past.

Years later she was able to give me her rings so that I could repair, refinish and re-gift them to my sisters and cousins. I also got to fix her wedding ring for her that she always wore. I love that we all have a ring now that my grandad brought for her, made in Birmingham where we’re all from. “

Whilst studying on the BA at Manchester School of Art I experimented with ceramics and glass before starting my journey into metalwork. During this exploratory time a fascination with flowers and nature also began.

After graduation, I went to teach metalwork with an NGO in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was unbelievable to me, like living in a film set with the decadent ancient ruins everywhere, and beautiful vast countryside like nothing I’d seen before. A fascination with exotic plants, seeds and leaves began. Plus an attention to the details of nature growing immediately around me developed.

In 2012, I was invited to study at Bishopsland, a renowned school for silversmithing. This was followed by four years of working in various workshops as a freelance jeweller in London. These include working in the studios of Jane Adam, Dower + Hall and Monica Vinedar.

In 2015 I was able to launch my first collection with inspiration coming from the nature that was closest to me. In the trailing ivy over the train bridge and the stunning cherry blossom canopies filling Victoria park.

My desire to travel more and explore lead me to leave London and move to the Pacific North Western coast of Canada. That changed everything on how I perceived nature. The mountains, pure waters and vast endless forests became common place in my world. I decided that being closer to nature was very important to me. Two years later, me and my partner decided to move back the the UK. We chose Sheffield so that we could be on the edge of the peak district national park and we have been exploring the UK together ever since.

I am so happy to be living and working in Sheffield, with its strong connection to steel and metalworkers of the past. I love being based at Yorkshire Artspace among so many talented artists. Now my time is spent thinking up new bespoke ring ideas that use sustainable materials for customers who also have a love for nature.”
